Today is the first day
On the first day, God created books. But realizing that books would have no function without readers, he decided to craft a creature that could read. After this one creature was created, God realized that it needed other creatures to talk and discuss books with. It couldn’t talk to God. Although God was all-powerful, he was a bit shy; plus he did not like all the questions that came from his creations, so rather than destroy them, he remained silent and observant. So he created these reading creatures and installed a basic, yet receptive reptilian brain, equipped with only the finest evolutionary upgrades. Soon there were enough creatures to form book clubs, universities, open-mic poetry readings, schools of literary thought and creation, newspapers, independent book sellers, used book stores, magazines, webzines, literary journals, weblogs, chapbooks…etc.
I am one of these creatures, chances are, if you made it here, you are too.
